7. Dean Malenko Vs. Scotty 2 Hotty - Backlash 2000
One of them was icy and stoic, a self-described Man of a Thousand Holds, and the other was part of a ridiculously-themed tag team that wore baggy jeans and did "The Worm" as part of his finishing move. Personality-wise, they couldn't possibly be more of an odd couple. But just like Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, they created magic together. Yes, there was still a great deal of silliness from Scotty 2 Hotty, but by and large this was just a showcase of two undervalued talents. Malenko went after it with his usual, old-school techniques (seriously, is this guy a lost Brain Busters or what?), working the appendages and using some Ric Flair-esque dirty tricks at every opportunity. This is another match frequently overlooked because it's a strategic slow burner that wouldn't have looked too out of place at a 1990 Pay-Per-View. But they livened things up at all the right times, utilizing some big-time spots (a stellar superplex that should have put a man-sized hole in the ring) to get a few thunderous pops from the crowd. And then there's that ending. Come on, how many endings can you name that match up to the sheer "Oh snap" factor of that reversed superplex into DDT? Brilliant finish.
