10 WWE Backstage Friendships That Paid Off For Huge Career Pushes

10. Big E And John Cena

We start with a guy who features heavily on this list - notoriously influential WWE figure John Cena. It's well noted amongst wrestling fans that if you're a young talent that catches Cena's eye, you're going to be in line for a major push. And that's exactly what happened with Big E last year. Don't forget, Big E (Langston) was just a heavy for Dolph Ziggler, and they were making a real mess of the talent he possessed. He had a strong following in NXT with that "five count" gimmick, and things were incredibly stale for Big E. But Cena was reportedly high on him from day one, and when his split from Ziggler occurred, he immediately overtook his former client in the popularity stakes. A quick success as Intercontinental Champion came from nowhere, as did a substantial push. But like the WWE have done with so much talent over the years, it's all gone a bit wrong again. Maybe a heel turn for Big E and a feud with John Cena would save his rapidly stalling career? After all, if Cena is so keen on Big E, perhaps he wouldn't be adverse to working with him directly.
