10 WWE Backstage Friendships That Paid Off For Huge Career Pushes

9. Cesaro And John Cena

With the exclusion of WrestleMania XXX (heck, you may even want to include it), there can be no doubting that John Cena and Cesaro put on one of the matches of 2014 so far earlier this year on Raw. It was a spectacular contest, and it was a match that really thrust Cesaro into the limelight. And believe it or not, that was all down to John Cena being high on Cesaro for a long, long time. That match wasn't even where the friendship began to pay off. Back in November of 2013, the WWE were on one of their European tours, and were competing in Germany. There, Cena closed the show with a win (obviously), before calling out Cesaro. He then cut an extraordinary promo which put Cesaro over immensely, and indicated just how much Cesaro was admired by Cena. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMRAUUNcfXk He told the German crowd that Cesaro (although he continually referred to him as Claudio, his real name), was a future world champion in the making, amongst other praise. That seems like a pretty big friendship paying off in a major way.
