10 WWE Booking Steps For Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler

9. US Championship Tournament

Us Title Tournament While Ziggler keeps on defending the Intercontinental Championship successfully, the other mid-card title needs to be elevated in a similar way. The best way to do this is to create a tournament to establish the #1 Contender for the United States Championship. This would need to be started as soon as possible, with the end goal of having the winner face champion Sheamus for the title at Survivor Series. The tournament would feature 16 competitors, with matches taking place on both RAW and SmackDown. The first week of the tournament would have the first round of matches, so four matches on RAW and four on SmackDown. Subsequent weeks would be devoted to the following round of matches. The reason for having a tournament is because it is more effective at showing off the Superstars€™ talents than a single over-the-top battle royale, which places too much emphasis on surprise and less on actual skill. WWE have been doing these matches for a very long time, notably when a champion gets injured and must vacate the championship. However, in this particular case, such a match type wouldn€™t the contender, nor would it do any favours for the title itself. WWE€™s next Pay-Per-View is Hell in a Cell, scheduled for October 26th, while Survivor Series is to be held on November 23rd. This gives the WWE plenty of time to finish up both current storylines as well as setup the tournament. Both Sheamus and Ziggler could successfully defend their respective titles at Hell in a Cell, while Rusev can defeat the Big Show at the same event. Then, the following night, the tournament can begin.
