10 WWE Booking Steps To Make Kevin Owens The Top Guy

8. Give Him A New Submission Finisher

Owens already has an aura built up around him as a tough-as-nails brawler who takes no prisoners no matter what the match outcome is. He already has an over finisher in the Pop-up Powerbomb which has already put away the likes of top tier talents like John Cena. By throwing in a lethal submission move into the mix, it opens up more possibilities for him. Not only does it add to an already diverse move-set, but it's a secondary finisher he could use rather than always having to rely on the Powerbomb to finish the job. But rather than just give him a new submission finisher of the sake of it, Owens should possess the type of move that has the look, feel and presence about it that looks like it could genuinely hurt somebody, perhaps even tear a muscle or even break a bone. He's adopted submission holds previously in his career, the Crossface and Sharpshooter among them, and despite being used previously by other performers they'd be good places to start (maybe not the crossface, but at least a variation of it). In this case though, we're thinking something that could be built up to be decidedly more lethal, perhaps even drawing inspiration from MMA in the form of some nasty holds (Brock Lesnar's Kimura is a great example) that can really do huge amounts of (kayfabe) damage. Start by feeding Owens a plethora of jobbers to not just tap out, but to put out of action for several weeks (kayfabe). It builds up not only the move, but Owens himself as he gradually dismantles bigger, more high-profile opponents the higher up the card he climbs. It's a tried and tested formula to get stars over. Owens doesn't need to get over as such €“ he already is €“ but the more strings to his bow, the better.
