10 WWE Champions Who Never Lost Their Titles
2. Shawn Michaels
Shawn Michaels was never big on losing belts.
Having managed to almost always avoid doing so, he must have been none too pleased to learn that he was penciled in to lose his WWF Championship at WrestleMania to, no less, the man he'd defeated for the honour only a year prior: Bret Hart.
HBK needed an out. Luckily for ol' HBK shizzle, he actually had a preexisting knee injury that required surgery. That sounded good enough. So, rather than drop the title to Hart, Michaels came out on Thursday Raw Thursday and relayed the news to his public. Telling the world that he had 'lost his smile' and claiming that the injury was so bad that he might have to retire, Michaels simply handed the title over to Vince McMahon and went home.
Fortunately for the Showstopper, he found his smile and made his way back to a WWF ring a few months later to win his third WWF tag-team title with Steve Austin.
Even more fortuitpusly for Michaels, he didn't even have to lose that one either, as the title was vacated after he walked out after a backstage fight with Hart.
