10 WWE Directions Following Fastlane 2017
3. Lesnar Gets His Man
The rivalry between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar has been about as one-sided as every other Brock Lesnar rivalry, albeit in the other direction. Goldberg has effectively squashed The Beast at every turn, besting him at Survivor Series initially, before removing him from the Royal Rumble match. With the Universal Title now on the line, their Mania match has taken on an all new meaning for WWE, but with Goldberg so easily shrugging off any and all-comers so far, how are we to believe that Lesnar can succeed this time around.
WWE needs to plant seeds of doubt in our minds, and in the mind of Bill Goldberg.
Let’s say Paul Heyman comes out on RAW. He asks Goldberg for a parley, calling the Universal Champ out in the process. Heyman regrets his client’s decision to pursue and antagonise Goldberg, he admits defeat, and he asks that Goldberg calls off the match at WrestleMania. As he is about to issue a response, Lesnar blindsides Goldberg, and we see him on the defensive for the first time. A few F-5s later, Heyman and Lesnar leave the arena, laughing like hyenas. Goldberg is stunned, his pride and honour bruised.
In one short segment, WWE adds fuel to this fire, while giving Lesnar some much-needed leverage against his nemesis.
