Lita's WWE career can be broken up into three main stages: 1. Team Xtreme (2000-2002) 2. Awkward Babyface with injuries and Kane's baby (2003-2004) 3. Edge's slutty, adulterous mistress (2005-2006) The simple truth is and will always be that Lita is one of the most unique, original and talented WWE Divas of all time, regardless of whatever kind of reputation she may or may not have gathered behind the scenes. That is her legacy. However, it wasn't without its asterisks. In 2003, following her return from a long-term neck injury, you'd have thought she would have been the most over of her entire career. Well, it just never happened. The fans weren't sure how to respond to her and a series of botches in key matches seemed to settle an uneasy anxiety over the live crowd in her matches. The instant push fuelled by her return ended very quickly and an atrocious storyline during which she agreed to have sex with Kane to stop him beating up her boyfriend Matt Hardy was matched by an equally vicious beating she was placing on his heart in real life, with an affair with fellow superstar Edge. This became public knowledge around the turn of 2005 and WWE, ever the opportunist, dealt with the situation in a way only they could. They fired Matt Hardy and turned Lita heel, placing their real-life adultery into an on-screen storyline that would eventually see Hardy rehired, beaten, sent packing to Smackdown and Edge become the WWE Champion. The following night after the latter, he and Lita celebrated with a live €œsex celebration€ during which Lita's bare breast was briefly exposed to the world. She would feature as Edge's valet in prominent main event angles and matches throughout the year up until her retirement in November of 2006. Not a bad set of PPV bonuses for a woman who cheated on her boyfriend.
