5. Bret Hart Vs. Mick Foley

Mick Foley came into the World Wrestling Federation when Bret Hart was solidly ensconced in the main event scene, a position that Foley soon found himself in as the deranged Mankind. Whilst Hart would be out of the company two years after Foley arrived, it is still surprising that they only went one-on-one once.

This was on an episode of Shotgun Saturday Night no less, on a strangely stacked card that saw Crush take on Sycho Sid, Rocky Maivia battle Savio Vega and Jake Roberts go up against Salvatore Sincere. Okay, not that stacked then, I guess. Bret managed to defeat Mankind by disqualification.

Bret and Foley would face off a number of times in tag competition on house shows, as Hart's feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin built and built. They only had one tag match on TV though, at which point Foley was playing Dude Love, teaming with Austin and The Undertaker in a losing effort against Hart, Owen Hart and The British Bulldog in a flag match.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
