8. The Justin Roberts Tie Incident
When the NXT Season 1 rookies banded together to form The Nexus, Daniel Bryan was one of the members of the group. As they debuted and destroyed Raw, Bryan did the infamous tie choke on Justin Roberts, and was subsequently released. It is unclear whether Bryan knew he was going to be brought back, but WWE waited for the controversy to die down, and brought Bryan back for Summerslam, not as a member of The Nexus, but as a member of Team WWE. Bryans WWE career may have had a different trajectory had he not decided to choke Justin Roberts with his own tie. Bryan would have stayed with The Nexus, and may have had to take a back seat to Wade Barrett, who was the unquestioned leader of the group. Perhaps he may have taken the David Otunga role of being the vocal leader of an uprising within the group. We will never know, as Bryan immediately went into a feud with The Miz after Summerslam and won the United States Championship.
