Goldie seems to be on his last run round the block with WWE. I attended a live event in Newcastle a couple of weeks back and after his match with Stardust, the former Bizarre One stayed in the ring to lap up the applause. You know, like superstars do when it's their last match. This lack of a prolonged future in the WWE means we should be afforded the pleasure of seeing the original Goldust character that took the WWF by storm way back in 1995 one more time. Even the 2002 stuttering freak would be great. Back in the mind 90s though he was the leading heel in the company, mixing it up in the main event with the likes of Shawn Michaels. He was over and looked like staying at the top of the card for a long time to come. However, before he was given the chance to hold the big gold belt he seemingly had the rug pulled from under his feet and was shunted down a couple of levels. Quite frankly, WWE made a huge error in doing so. At the age of 46, it remains to be seen how much of a fanciful idea this is. Nevertheless, it doesn't get away from the fact he isn't doing the Goldust character justice at the moment. We're just seeing Dustin Runnels dressed up like Goldie which isn't good. Not at all. One more run with a leading man, bringing back all the weirdness of 1995 would still be acceptable in today's product. After all, his debut in WWF preceded the Attitude Era, remember? This could provide John Cena with a perfect dance partner for a few months once his feud with Rusev is done and dusted. Dustin is in the best shape of his professional career so will still be able to hang with someone as fit as Cena. One to think about for WWE for sure. They need to give him the send off his career deserves.
