10 WWE Faces Who Were Actually Total Heels

4. Edge

It’s easy to feel sympathetic towards Edge in 2017. His career ended in horrendously depressing fashion, and his “farewell” segment remains one of the modern era’s most emotional moments. In addition, Edge was a tremendous “total package” athlete who combined great in-ring ability with bags of charisma, and his sublime championship record and Hall of Fame status are more than justified.

That being said, Edge was always more convincing as a heel than a face. He was at his absolute best when running as WWE’s Ultimate Opportunist, and his Rated R Superstar gimmick sent him through the roof. There were times when Edge was incredibly popular as a face, but he was still very much a heel in disguise.

Edge was particularly nasty during his post-King of the Ring run from 2001-03, when he’d act dismissive and abusive to almost everyone who crossed his path, particularly Kurt Angle. His absolute worst babyface run came in 2010, however, when he was feuding with Kane.

Over the space of several weeks, “babyface” Edge kidnapped Paul Bearer, tortured him, then used him as bait to lure Kane into a series backstage assault. Kane demanded Edge let go of his Dad, but no - the “good guy” kept him in custody, and WWE even produced an angle where he ran over a Paul Bearer dummy to rile Kane up.

The worst part? It ended with Edge tricking Kane into pushing the real Paul Bearer from a 15ft scaffold onto the exposed concrete below.

What a great guy.
