10 WWE Faces Who Were Actually Total Heels
5. Triple H
Triple H has worn the babyface hat a number of times throughout his career, and it has almost always been a mistake. The Game probably attracts more criticism than he should, but he was always an excellent heel, particularly while feuding with Mick Foley in 2000. His greatest babyface moment came after returning from a torn quad in 2002, but he has always been more believable as the bad guy, regardless of the circumstances.
Simply put, The Game just isn’t all that likeable. He’s a physically gifted rich guy who married into wrestling’s most powerful family, and has committed a number of on-air crimes against some of the sport’s biggest faces in Steve Austin, The Rock, and co. Triple H is a born villain, and as tiresome as his “evil boss” character type has become, it’s infinitely preferable to the occasions when he has tried to be the “good guy.”
As a face, Triple H’s worst run came in 2011. It was the tail end of the Summer of Punk, and Hunter was set to feud with the man himself. All logic pointed towards Triple H turning heel to feud with CM Punk, whose buzz was at an all-time high, but The Game remained the apparent “face” throughout. He was completely detestable in the role, and his ensuing victory completely derailed Punk’s momentum and set the events that would eventually lead to his WWE departure into motion.
Even today, Triple H still tries to curry favour by painting himself as NXT’s benevolent “creator” and taking Instagram snaps with the brand’s biggest stars. It’s a role he obviously does a lot of good in, but who does Triple H think he’s fooling at this point?
