Before John Cena was The Marine, he was a US Title-chasing, crotch-grabbing rapper who feuded, variously, with Big Show, Renee Dupree, and Spanky. In order for him to become a big-time movie star, WWE needed to sign him off for a short while so he could start filming.

They could've said he sustained a simple muscle tear or a concussion, but instead they told fans he had been stabbed outside a Boston nightclub - by Jesus, no less.

It was Carlito's bodyguard, rather than the actual son of God, but still: this was pretty unusual, and one or two fans at the time became concerned that their hero may have been legitimately injured.

One would hope those fans saw through the smoke and mirrors when the stabbing became the basis of a score-settling Street Fight between the pair at Armageddon.
