10 WWE Fan Reactions That Had A Serious Effect On A Wrestler

2. John Cena Feels The Wrath Of ECW (2006)

John Cena is recognised as one of the most unflappable stars in the history of wrestling.

For a large chunk of his career, Cena was classed as a 'divisive' figure and would regularly find himself being booed by every fan in the audience over the age of 15.

Yet, despite waves of negativity being showered over him whenever he stepped into a WWE ring, Cena more often than not still equipped himself with a smile and a salute to the fans still on his side in the building.

Back at ECW One Night Stand in 2006, however, Cena didn't have a portion of the live crowd to fall back on. New York's Hammerstein Ballroom was packed full of die-hard extreme fanatics and they only had eyes for their boy RVD.

This time Cena was thoroughly on his own.

Walking down to the ring with his head hung low and spinner WWE title held high, Cena was mercilessly booed from the moment he set foot in the building.

Chants of 'Throw it back!' (followed by Cena's shirt being lobbed back at the Champ), a sea of middle fingers and 'F*ck you, Cena!' choruses sang with undeniable venom all clearly took a toll on the face of WWE.

For the first time in his babyface career, Cena appeared unable to block out the hate and he had no choice but to play the role of unlikely villain on the night. Something he would again later do against the likes of CM Punk and AJ Styles.
