Anyone who thinks programming someone against a superstar and hoping for the best is enough to get that person over should examine Billy Gunn's feud with The Rock in 1999. Fresh off winning the '99 King of the Ring, Billy was in full flow as 'Mr. Ass' and regularly spent time on Raw telling everybody how great his butt was.

Somehow, the WWF thought this was ideal for The Rock and decided to feud both men heading into SummerSlam. We get that Ass was supposed to get a rub (ahem) from working with Rocky, but it didn't work out for either man. Fans found it hard to view both in the same league and The Rock looked demotivated himself.

A 10-minute 'Kiss My Ass' match at SummerSlam was all we got. Then, The Rock was moved on to another lame feud against The British Bulldog. Both could stake a claim to being the worst rivalry of 1999, and that's saying something considering Big Boss Man cooked Al Snow's dog.

The Attitude Era was great, eh?
