10 WWE Feuds That Overstayed Their Welcome
8. Randy Orton Vs. Cody Rhodes And Ted DiBiase (2009-2010)
It made so much sense on paper. Randy Orton, third-generation Superstar and multiple-time champion, would take a group of young wrestlers from a similar pedigree under his wing to form a stable that would wreak havoc in WWE.
Legacy's core was Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, and Orton. In the later months of the group’s existence the seeds were sown for an internal implosion, with all signs indicating that DiBiase and Rhodes would break away from their maniacal leader.
Unfortunately, WWE sat too long on the rebellion of the young protégés who seemed content in allowing themselves to be bullied, beaten, and humiliated by Orton. The moment of clarity for fans came when Randy RKO’d Cody’s father Dusty Rhodes on Monday Night RAW and Cody stood there with a pathetic look on his face and offering no retaliation.
Because of the perceived spinelessness of Ted and Cody, the breakup of Legacy and the subsequent feud had the complete opposite effect and turned Orton face instead. The entire blowoff happened at Wrestlemania 26 in a lacklustre triple threat between the three that Orton won in decisive fashion.
You know you’ve lost the plot when the guy who’s attacking senior citizens is the one who gets over.
