10 WWE Feuds That Overstayed Their Welcome
7. Sasha Banks Vs. Charlotte Flair (2016)
WWE revived the brand split in 2016. Coming only a year after the highly publicised Divas Revolution, the company made a point to feature its key female wrestlers as prize draft picks. Indeed, Charlotte Flair was drafted 3rd overall, and Sasha Banks was the next woman to be picked shortly thereafter. With two talents at such high spots now on Monday Night RAW, the seeds were sown for a featured programme.
The rivalry kicked off when Banks, on her debut RAW post-draft, won the Women's Title from Charlotte. From there the two battled for the title over the next few months, making history by becoming the first women to headline a PPV (Hell in a Cell 2016) and to compete in the titular Cell match at the same event.
Yet despite the refreshing spotlight on the female talent, there were missteps. Playing hot potato with the strap felt unnecessary and borderline comical near the end. Presently, Charlotte's a 12-time Champion, and three of those wins happened over the three months of this feud! Furthermore, Charlotte had a secondary story-line where she was undefeated at PPVs, which essentially took the drama out of any Title fight between the two that wasn’t on RAW.
The matches were great, and so much focus being on women’s wrestling was a good direction, but these dance partners could have done with a bit of a break between songs.
