10 WWE Finishers That Were Quickly Dropped

5. Stone Cold Steve Austin - Million Dollar Dream

A legion of 'Forgotten' videos will ensure that Stone Cold Steve Austin's initial run as The Ringmaster will never be forgotten. The gimmick is always remembered in a derogatory manner but I contend that that is only the case because of how monolithically popular his follow-up persona was. Sure, The Ringmaster didn't set the world on fire, but that doesn't exactly leave Steve Austin in a group on his own. It wasn't all bad, it just wasn't great.

The Million Dollar Dream wasn't a great choice as finisher though. It didn't help that it kept Austin in the past, tied to his manager and a legacy built a decade prior. WWE was in desperate need of modernisation and those in charge knew it, but that same management seemed to think that modernisation was wrestlers with labour-based employment on the side. In truth, modernisation meant embracing all things gritty.

The sleeper lasted less than six months before it was replaced with a kick to the gut and an impactful jawbreaker, a move that became know as the Stone Cold Stunner. You may have heard of it?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
