10 WWE Gimmicks That Were Basically Just Rip-Offs

5. Sin Cara/Sangriento

Knknk Out of all the possible great characters in WWE history to rip off, why did TNA go for Sin Cara? A more important question is why did TNA take a great talent like Amazing Red, and have him slap on a mask ripping off a WWE wrestler? In hindsight, it looks like a pretty stupid idea. At the time...well, it was also a pretty stupid idea, but Sin Cara at least seemed to have potential as a star then. On the Apr. 11, 2011 edition of Raw, Sin Cara had his first in-ring match in WWE. Eight days later, Sangriento appeared in TNA. That's a pretty big coincidence you could say. Much like Sin Cara, Sangriento was a babyface masked wrestler billed from Mexico with a variety of flash moves. Sure, he didn't have the fancy-pants blue lights like Sin Cara had, but it was pretty clear what they were going for. Unfortunately for Sangriento, he had exactly two matches on Impact before Eric Bischoff, and the rest of TNA creative must have got tired of him. In the end, he didn't last as long as the guy he was ripping off, but at least he didn't have to be relieved from duty and have someone else take his place under the mask like Sin Cara did.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
