10 WWE Gimmicks That Pushed The PG Era To Its Limits

1. AJ Lee (Bunny Boiler)

Shortly after being jilted by Daniel Bryan and blamed for his embarrassing World Heavyweight Title defeat to Sheamus at WrestleMania XXVIII, AJ Lee developed a mentally unstable character that purposefully messed with male minds. In effect, she became what the urban dictionary would describe as a "bunny boiler".

Over the span of the next few years, Lee toyed with Bryan, CM Punk, John Cena, Kane and Dolph Ziggler. Her involvement with each man wasn't typical; instead of playing second fiddle to her lovers, AJ manipulated them with freakish behaviour and played them against one another.

It was a brave character, especially when the product was supposed to be strictly PG and WWE knew young girls would be watching.

In fairness to Lee, she excelled in the role and somehow appeared as a powerful, independent women despite always being attached to male superstars. That wasn't a given. Not just anybody could have played the gimmick so effectively or skirted the fine line between good taste and offensive characterisation with such ease.
