CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy is a rivalry that pretty much writes itself, and has so much of its content based in real life that it was easy for fans to get invested in their conflict.

CM Punk is widely known to be straight-edge and doesn't smoke, do drugs or consume alcohol, while Jeff Hardy is known to have a troubled past with addiction and substance abuse that have plagued his career even beyond this particular rivalry.

The twist comes that CM Punk was the heel of this feud, proselytising about how much better he was than everyone due to his straight-edge ways, and Jeff Hardy was the face who accepted responsibility for his past mistakes and advocated personal accountability and free will to the WWE Universe.

It was a classic class of conflicting ideology, and with two wrestlers as daring and inventive as Punk and Hardy they raised the bar every single time they clashed.

The Punk v Hardy rivalry ended with a TLC match at SummerSlam followed by a Loser Leaves WWE Steel Cage match on Smackdown, but it still felt unfinished as Jeff Hardy simply left WWE after, never to return and seek vengeance.

It's crazy to think that a daredevil like Jeff Hardy never had a Hell in a Cell match, and with CM Punk he had the perfect opponent and the perfect rival.
