10 WWE House Show Matches We Can't Believe Weren't Televised
5. Finn Bálor Vs. Samoa Joe - 2016
WWE very rarely conducts title changes on house show events. What's more, the title changes that do are seldom of overall significance, which made Samoa Joe's shocking victory over Finn Bálor in April 2016 a truly shocking moment.
Joe had been pursuing Bálor's NXT Championship for several months at the time. The chase had even run through two NXT TakeOver events, including TakeOver: London in December 2015 and TakeOver: Dallas during WrestleMania 32 weekend.
While many had tipped Joe to wrest the belt off Bálor in Dallas, the shock retention of the gold led many to question if the switch would ever occur. That question would be answered less than a month later, in front of a stunned audience in Lowell, Massachusetts.
A routine live event for the feeder brand, Finn was set to defend the title against Joe in the main event. After a back and forth bout, Joe took advantage of Bálor's positioning on the top rope, hitting the Musclebuster to win his very first championship in WWE.
Labelled as Mayhem in Massachusetts, clips of the bout were shown on NXT days later. Coincidentally, that same year, Joe would drop the NXT Title to Shinsuke Nakamura on another house show, that time taking place in Nakamura's home country of Japan.
