10 WWE Icons Who Had Totally Forgettable TNA Runs
7. Damien Sandow
Damien Sandow is one of WWE's most underrated performers of the 2010s. The Intellectual Saviour of the Masses had an authentic rapport with fans, as his natural charisma led him through a good tag team run with Cody Rhodes, a superb feud with The Miz, and he even won the 2013 Money In The Bank briefcase. Nevertheless, he failed his attempt to cash in on John Cena (on an episode of Raw, no less), and it never felt as though the Vince McMahon-led WWE creative team truly believed in Sandow.
After finally being released by WWE in 2016, Sandow debuted as Aron Rex in TNA. Rex was one of the main attractions in the tournament to crown the first-ever Grand Champion. The rules of this tournament involved 3 rounds of 3 minutes being scored by judges, and it was every bit as terrible as that sounds.
Rex won the first Grand Championship, beating Eli Drake on the way and Eddie Edwards in the final. He held this belt, having to keep having matches under these terrible rules, before eventually dropping it to Moose. The former Sandow then adopted a new persona in which he was overtly feminine. It was misguided at best, offensive at worst, and lasted just two matches before he never wrestled for the company again.
