10 WWE Legends Who Should Have Retired At WrestleMania
8. Mick Foley (vs Edge) WrestleMania 22
There is an argument to be made that Mick Foley should have retired at the turn of the century when he lost a retirement Hell in a Cell match against Triple H at No Way Out 2000. The seminal feud would have been a great way for Cactus Jack to go out on his barbed wire-wrapped sword, but he returned a few weeks later to compete in the main event of WrestleMania 2000.
Afterward, Foley did actually retire for four years before coming back to team with The Rock against Evolution, which would lead to a star-making match for the 'Legend Killer' Randy Orton at Backlash 2004. He would then appear sporadically for WWE over the next few years, but it was clear the 'Hardcore Legend' was physically declining beyond the point of being able to wrestle
Foley's hardcore bout against the 'Rated-R Superstar' Edge at WrestleMania 22 really should have been his last match, as he managed to put in a great performance despite the clear physical struggles he was enduring. The hardcore bout was the last great performance from one of WWE's most important stars, which is worth remembering him for instead of his TNA run.
