10 WWE Legends Who Should Have Won The Royal Rumble But Never Did

1. Kurt Angle

Olympic gold medalist? Check. King of the Ring? Check. Main evented WrestleMania? Check. Won the Royal Rumble? Che..wait, what? Oh, it's true. Kurt Angle never won the Royal Rumble, despite making seven consecutive Rumble pay-per-view appearances. Of those seven appearances, only three were in the Rumble match itself in 2002, 2004 and 2005. Kurt would have been a credible winner of any of these Rumbles but, alas, it was not to be. Kurt was runner-up in 2002, eventually being clotheslined out by the returning Triple H. It was the right decision, seeing as Triple H was white-hot after many months on the sidelines with a torn quad. 2004 went to Benoit, even though Angle dedicated his win to the US Army toops. His loss set Kurt's heel turn in motion. The wrestling machine only lasted a minute in the 2005 Rumble after he was superkicked out of the match by Shawn Michaels. Kurt would have his revenge, returning later in the match to illegally eliminate The Heartbreak Kid. Other Rumbles usually saw Angle challenging for or defending the WWE Championship (apart from Rumble 2000, where he was choked out by a debuting Tazz). Angle has had many great showings at the Rumble PPV, including a sensational title match with Chris Benoit in 2003. When you look at Angle's credibility and the fact that he was almost always involved in the title picture, it seems weird that he only came close to winning the Rumble on one occasion. Now languishing in TNA and no spring chicken at 46, it seems impossible that Angle would have another shot at the Rumble.
