10 WWE Main Eventers Fans Rejected

1. Roman Reigns

With John Cena’s career finally on the downswing, Roman Reigns has inherited the mantle of WWE’s hand-picked golden boy. Though presented as a babyface, the Samoan regularly draws the company’s loudest heel reactions, and he’s routinely pushed as the most important and protected wrestler on the roster, whether championships are involved or not.

The Reigns backlash really kicked into overdrive at the 2015 Royal Rumble, when even The Rock couldn’t save him from the baying masses. In spite of this, Reigns' push has slowed at points, but never truly stalled, and no matter how overwhelming the fans’ negativity becomes, WWE are happy to stay their course.

It’s hard to imagine Roman ever being fully accepted in his current role. He’s a tremendous wrestler, and would likely make an excellent heel, but he’s booked so dominantly that it’s impossible to feel sympathy for him. Regardless, Roman isn’t going anywhere, and will be pushed as “the guy” for as long as Vince McMahon is around.

Like Cena, Reigns is a huge merch-shifter, and very popular among certain fan demographics. His detractors are much louder than his supporters, however, and they’ll never accept his main event status without a significant shift in character.
