Despite the fact that this is sometimes used to help further a story, a Superstar being taken out before a match (usually because they're attacked on the way down to the ring) is nothing new. While the attacker admittedly has the element of surprise, it would make more sense for them to strike when their rival is heading to the back, tired from their match. That's an annoyance, but far from the worst example of a match never happening due to interference before the bell rings. It's even more infuriating when another Superstar is used to help further the storyline of two others, and The Miz being at the receiving end of a KO Punch just to set up a feud between Ryback and The Big Show is obviously one such case. He was made to look unimportant, and the odds of him receiving any sort of retribution are slim. While these non-matches might work for some of those involved, it's a shame to see storylines furthered at the expense of others. It's also more than a little tedious for the announce team to hype a match up over the course of an hour, only for it to never happen. Doing away with this type of finish altogether would be no bad thing in all honesty, but using it more sparingly would at least lend it some gravitas when it does happen.
