Following up a painfully disappointing summer a year earlier, what could've acted as the feud that re-announced AJ Styles as the bona fide in-ring sensation TNA and NJPW supporters, and even those fond of his 2016 WWE work still knew him to be ultimately wound up being remembered more for d*ck kicks than any Match of the Year performances.

With Shinsuke Nakamura finally having a rocket strapped to his back during a 2018 Royal Rumble match-winning display, WWE wasted absolutely no time in selling fans on a "dream match" capable of matching the pair's previous effort inside of the Tokyo Dome at Wrestle Kingdom 10.

By the time the dust had settled on that WrestleMania 34 WWE Championship bout, though, all hope of WWE ever allowing these two super workers to fully unleash their potential appeared to have evaporated. An unmemorable back-and-forth was eventually won by The Phenomenal One, leading to a devious low blow and heel turn for Nak as the two old rivals would set sail on a voyage of more crotch shots and weak finishes in the coming months.

The damage done to Nak's main event status was only equalled by the trauma likely felt in AJ's scrotum.
