Also known as the "Becky Lynch's Nose Memorial Match", Raw Women's Champion Ronda Rousey faced not-SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair at Survivor Series 2018.

The original plan was to have Lynch (the actual SmackDown champion) fight Rousey in the traditional Champion vs Champion mould of the show. This went out the window though when Lynch's face exploded at the hands of Nia Jax.

Whilst leading an invasion of the red brand, Lynch got clocked with a stiff punch from Jax that legitimately broke her nose. This put Becky out of her proposed match with Rousey, and so the Lass Kicker selected Charlotte as her replacement.

This accomplished two things. One, it gave fans a huge dream match between two of the biggest female names in combat sport. Two, it kept Lynch and Rousey apart.

Becky had been gaining momentum like a runaway freight train, quickly becoming the most popular act in all of wrestling. Fans wanted her to face Ronda, but in a marquee match at WrestleMania, not in some throwaway gimmick contest at Survivor Series.

Lynch's injury couldn't have been more perfectly timed, making her look like a badass and setting up that big WrestleMania payoff.

Sort of.
