10 WWE Matches Improved By Last Minutes Changes
5. The Ultimate Warrior Vs The Honky Tonk Man - SummerSlam 1988
The phrase "poor Brutus Beefcake" doesn't get used often, and with good reason.
The Barber has often been accused of using his friendship with Hulk Hogan to get ahead in the business, but even Hulkamania couldn't help Brother Bruti capture the Intercontinental Championship.
Beefers was supposed to win the belt a number of times in his career but never did. Once was at SummerSlam 1990, where a parasailing accident forced The Texas Tornado into his spot.
Another came at the very first SummerSlam event two years earlier, but this substitution created one of the most memorable moments in company history.
Champion Honky Tonk Man was left without an opponent after Beefcake was taken out with a kayfabe injury. He then proclaimed that he would accept a match from anybody, which summoned The Ultimate Warrior.
30 seconds later, Warrior had ended Honky's record-setting reign and cemented himself as a megastar.
Whilst this may have been a storyline switch as opposed to any real-life drama, Warrior taking Beefcake's place in this match gave birth to one of the most legendary title changes in the history of the WWE.
