10 WWE Matches That Completely Fell Short Of Expectations

4. Elimination Chamber (December To Dismember 2006)

Triple H Shane McMahon

In 2006, at the ECW-branded December to Dismember show, the Elimination Chamber main event was supposed to be the saving grace on a card that featured just two matches announced ahead of show time.

And even though this was WWE’s watered-down version of ECW, at least there were two ECW originals in the match in the form of Rob Van Dam and Sabu, as well as the increasingly popular CM Punk for fans to get behind.

Of course, that changed early in the show when Sabu was written out of the match in a backstage injury angle. And things went from bad to worse when Punk was the first man eliminated half-way through proceedings.

Van Dam would follow shortly after, leaving Bobby Lashley – hand-selected by Vince McMahon and perhaps the most un-ECW guy in the mix – to pin both Test and the Big Show and capture the ECW Championship.

That series of booking choices, each of which was something of a slap in the face of the old ECW name, meant that the longer the match went on, the more disappointing things got. Pretty much the opposite of what you want from a pro wrestling show, then.
