Blood was a strict no-no in the WWF of 1992. A glitzy, homogenised cartoon world of larger-than-life characters and easy-to-follow stories, the product was aimed squarely at families, not bloodthirsty wrasslin' fans who remembered Ric Flair's claret mane from ye olde NWA days.

So, imagine Vince McMahon's meltdown when Flair and Randy Savage conveniently forgot the rules and added some blading to their title bout on the night of WrestleMania VIII. Wooooo-oops.

By the end, Flair's face, head and hair were caked in thick globs of blood, and Vinnie was on the warpath. He fined Ric several thousand dollars and reprimanded both he and Randy for daring to defy company directives. Meanwhile, Bret Hart and Roddy Piper got away with adding crimson to their earlier match because Hart was able to convince McMahon it was accidental.

Best there ever was, lads.
