10 WWE Matches That Prove This Is The Best Era In Women's Wrestling
6. Charlotte Vs. Natalya - NXT TakeOver
The storyline was as close to perfect entering the inaugural NXT TakeOver event back in May 2014 at Full Sail University. The second of two women's matches on the card had the veteran Natalya up against the upstart Charlotte for the then-vacant NXT Women's title.
Adding intrigue to the situation was the fact that Charlotte and Natalya had their Hall of Fame relatives in their corners — in Ric Flair and Bret "The Hitman" Hart, respectively. Each looked like both The Nature Boy and Excellence of Execution, trapping in each other in submission moves, only to counter out.
During one electric sequence in the match, Natalya cinches in the sharpshooter, which Charlotte brilliantly counters into a Figure Four, before the two wind up slapping each other to break the hold.
Moments later, Charlotte traps Natalya in the Sharpshooter, staring in Bret's direction. Although Natalya would power out, Charlotte would spring to action with the Natural Selection to get the pinfall and lay claim to the NXT Women's championship. Awesome match — and easily the scene-stealer from the show.
