10 WWE Matches That Prove This Is The Best Era In Women's Wrestling
7. Charlotte Vs. Nikki Bella - Night Of Champions (2015)
Before WWE could really usher in the new wave of women's wrestling, it needed to pass the torch.
The company accomplished that at its Night of Champions (2015) pay-per-view event last September by putting Nikki Bella up against Charlotte. Nikki entered the match as the longest-running Divas Champion in WWE history.
And she looked every bit poised to defend her crown, working on the leg of Charlotte much like Bret Hart used to do to soften up his challengers for their Sharpshooter demise back in the day.
Except in Nikki's case, she wasn't weakening Charlotte's leg as a setup for a submission move. It was more to thwart falling a victim to Ric Flair's daughter's vaunted Figure Eight. Nikki's blueprint to remain champ was working all along until she scaled the ropes, looking for a splash off the second turnbuckle. Instead of connecting, Charlotte nailed her with a spear.
And the Divas champ was ripe for the picking, as Charlotte locked in her dad's Figure Four, extending it into her Figure Eight bridge and getting Nikki to tap out in the center of the ring. It was a helluva match and memorable moment as the Nature Boy himself embraced his daughter, who has the distinction of being the last WWE Divas champion and first WWE Women's champion. Making history just like her old man — Woooo!
