10 WWE Matches That Were Too Epic To Fail (Yet Somehow Still Did)

7. Finn Balor Vs Shinsuke Nakamura (Extreme Rules 2019)

The Intercontinental Championship wasn't in the best of positions in 2019.

Just a year earlier the belt was being fought over in the fantastic opening match of 'Mania 34 and stars like Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, The Miz and Dolph Ziggler had been putting it all on the line to prove they were the rightful owner of the storied title.

Yet, here we were in the wake of 'Mania 35 and Balor's 'Demon King' had just done away with Bobby Lashley and Andrade, but the belt now felt about as important as a pre-show match. Which is coincidently where Balor's last IC title defence took place.

That being said, even though it had been banished to the kick-off that didn't dampen our spirits, for we were about to see Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura battle on a WWE PPV for the first time ever at that year's Extreme Rules.

Sadly, they hit all the familiar Balor and Nakamura beats you'd expect, but this ultimately ended up feeling like a 'lite' version of their epic NXT battle a few years earlier.

Nakamura won the contest and then embarked on an even more disappointing 201 day reign as IC Champion.
