10 WWE Matches That Were Too Epic To Fail (Yet Somehow Still Did)

6. Eddie Guerrero Vs Rey Mysterio (WrestleMania 21)

You'll notice that a lot of the entries on this list all took place at the Showcase of the Immortals. This is probably down to the fact that it's the biggest show of the year, meaning that any match which finds its way onto that card needs to feel like a contest worthy of the legendary stage.

Eddie Guerrero Vs Rey Mysterio looked like exactly the sort of match which was made for 'Mania. Two of the very best performers of their generation - also the WWE Tag Team Champions at the time - battling to find out who was the better wrestler of the two.

Yet, what should have been a high flying, technical masterpiece, eventually devolved into a good-but-not-great encounter between a pair of future Hall of Famers.

Mysterio's mask malfunction didn't help things, but it still just felt like the duo were trying too hard to push for the sort of match they were more than capable of pulling off in their sleep.

Again, it was by no means an awful showcase of what the real life pals had in their lockers, it just wasn't the epic meeting we were waiting for. Thankfully the pair went on to produce one of the most memorable feuds in WWE history in the wake of this underwhelming 'Mania opener.
