10 WWE Matches We Thought We Wanted To See (Until We Saw Them)

4. Survivor Series 1997: Shawn Michaels Vs. Bret Hart

One could make a strong argument that Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels are the best two in-ring performers to ever lace up a pair of wrestling boots. At WrestleMania XII, during their legendary Iron Man match, fans got to witness first hand the magic these two men could make together.

Given the previously mentioned factors, there was reason to believe that their match at Survivor Series would be an instant classic.

While it did produce one of the most talked-about moments in wrestling history (the Montreal Screwjob), and the match itself got off to a decent enough start, the finish was a complete disaster in real-time.

The ending seemed like a botch, and (though it all made sense later), it was unclear why Bret Hart spit on Vince McMahon or why the WWE CEO was even out there in the first place.

With internet spoilers not being nearly as prevalent as they are today, this just seemed like a bad match (which it sort of was) as opposed to a major piece of wrestling history.
