10 WWE Midcard Matches That Stole Major PPVs

5. Bret Hart Vs. Steve Austin - WrestleMania 13

Some have called this moment the official launching point of the Attitude Era, since this is the match that really kickstarted Stone Cold's career, but even if some would argue that point, there's no debating that Hart vs. Austin usurped everything else on the card by a mile. It would normally be ridiculous to suggest someone on the undercard stole the show away from an Undertaker main event...until you remember that he and Psycho Sid basically hugged it out for two full minutes in the middle of their match. Passing of the torch insinuations aside, this match showed the darker side of Bret Hart, allowing him to slug it out more than he would typically do, and the end results are brutal. (In the best way, of course.) It was a gutsy display by both performers. It also showed the resiliency and tenacity of Stone Cold in a big way. With his face spewing blood, Bret locks in the Sharpshooter, and spends the next 90 seconds trying to get Stone Cold to tap out. He struggles valiantly, thrashing and screaming, all the while creating one of the most iconic images in WrestleMania history. The storytelling in this match was brilliant, but the execution was even better.
