10 WWE Midcard Matches That Stole Major PPVs

6. Shawn Michaels Vs. Ric Flair - WrestleMania XXIV

It should be no surprise that Shawn Michaels has ended up on this list multiple times (and we're not done with him yet). HBK earned the nickname Mr. WrestleMania for good reason, somehow managing to one-up himself every time he appeared in the event. Though the majority of matches featured at WrestleMania XXIV were, to put it gently, uninspired, it will always be remembered fondly if only because it was the closing chapter in Ric Flair's astounding career. And there couldn't have been a better choice of guys to send him out the door than Michaels. In a moment that's guaranteed to bring on the tears no matter how many times you watch it, Michaels reluctantly sets up the battered and beaten Flair for the Sweet Chin Music. The look on Michael's face as he primed himself to deliver the career-ending finisher said it all, but it was the heartfelt "I'm sorry, I love you" that showed just how much respect he had for The Nature Boy. The match itself was beautifully executed (as if these guys could ever bring anything but total magic into the ring), but it was the moments immediately following the pinfall that made this so historic, as Flair received a well-deserved standing ovation as he tearfully exited the ring.
