10 WWE Moments 2020 Will Be Fondly Remembered For
3. Undertaker (Apparently) Rides Into The Sunset After The Boneyard Match
It was always going to be a challenge as to how WWE would send Undertaker off. How do you honour a 30+ year career of someone who's become an icon not only in wrestling but in pop culture in general?
Well, the Boneyard Match probably wasn't on the radar for many, but it certainly seems to have fit the bill for the 'Taker's likely swan song.
The build-up had many worried, as it was primarily duelling promos between AJ Styles and Mark Calaway involving 'real names' and spouses and how Calaway was too old to go anymore. Even up to the last week before 'Mania, no one really knew what a Boneyard Match was.
But, my god, did we find out.
The closing match of night one of WrestleMania, the Boneyard Match was a cinematic masterpiece (as far as cinematic matches go) that showed how this could, and should, be done. Calling back to various stages of the Undertaker's career and persona, it was a blast to watch - a hearse, druids, pyro, 'Taker's motorcycle, teleportation, a magical front-end loader, AJ's gloved hand sticking out of the grave, and the Undertaker's logo displayed by laser on a deserted barn.
Was it good wrestling? No. Was it a damn spectacle? Absolutely.
