Fans went nuts whenever 'The Fiend' committed one of his peek-a-boo assaults, largely due to their unique gritty presentation. Repeating old ghoulish tropes and resorting to more hokey antics played against the more original creative efforts of Bray Wyatt.

Alas, Vince McMahon has a certain way of categorizing wrestlers that often leads them down dull and well-beaten paths. Oh, 'The Fiend' is like The Undertaker and Kane? Better have him come out of the ring!

In addition to revisiting the ring trapdoor schtick, WWE also placed Wyatt in a more awkward scenario than a terrifying one.

At the time, Daniel Bryan needed to transition from environmentalist heel back to yes-chanting babyface. From WWE's viewpoint, what Bryan associated his eco-friendly evil ways with the most was his shaggy hair. You know, hippies or something. Regardless, because his messy look was part of his identity, 'The Fiend' ambushed 'The Leader of the Yes Movement' during an in-ring promo and dragged him underneath the ring.

After a few moments, chunks of what was presumably Bryan's hair were tossed up from the conspicuously square hole in the ring.

The use of tired parlor tricks, such as the ring trap door, wouldn't have been quite as offensive if WWE gave them a little extra creative elbow grease. Not only did this stunt make Wyatt come off more as 'The Boogeyman' than 'The Fiend,' it was as though the billion-dollar enterprise couldn't spare a few extra dollars on increasing the production value.
