10 WWE Moments That Destroyed The 'Fiend' Character
3. An Invulnerable Force - SummerSlam 2019
Bray Wyatt's 'Eater of Worlds' gimmick was buried so far down in the dirt that no one saw him as a credible threat anymore. Therefore, capitalizing on a lengthy hiatus was a terrific opportunity for WWE to reintroduce him with a little more gravitas.
When puppets started popping up on weekly shows, though, fans weren't so sure they were ready for the former cult leader's return. Gradually, the vignettes (later the FireFly FunHouse) became darker and more entrancing. The build to the debut of 'The Fiend' ended up being masterful by WWE standards.
Many would argue 'The Fiend's' first match against Finn Balor at SummerSlam 2019 was well-executed, giving fans enough to salivate and nothing more. So what was so wrong with the murder clown's debut?
At the time, nothing. It seemed perfect. However, in hindsight, there was one major flaw with the presentation of 'The Fiend:' His invulnerability.
It might have looked cool when Wyatt no-sold every one of Balor's attempts at offense, but this precise moment led to some rather nasty ones down the line.
Since 'The Fiend' was omnipotent, WWE struggled to develop creative ways to keep the mad clown down, leading to ridiculous sights such as him kicking out of a thousand finishers and weapon strikes, being lit on fire, and being (sort of) electrocuted by pyrotechnics. At this rate, it might not be long before one of those WrestleMania military jets shoots him dead with a freakin' rocket.
