10 WWE Moments That Destroyed The 'Fiend' Character
2. Second Universal Title Reign - SummerSlam Through Payback
In spite of a few creative faux pas, Bray Wyatt was off to a dominant reign as Universal Champion until a part-time Goldberg returned to treat him like a tackling dummy at Super ShowDown 2020. But once he picked up the strap for the second time at SummerSlam, it appeared WWE intended on resuming 'The Fiend's' mega push.
Once again, Wyatt was tossed aside for a returning performer though. Coming back from his spring hiatus, Reigns showed up to make short work of Braun Strowman and 'The Fiend' moments after the Universal title switched hands. For a brief second, there was hope that Wyatt would be more than a transitional champion, and just as quickly, it was gone.
While fans may have rejoiced in the fact Reigns finally turned heel with his new 'Head of the Table' gimmick, it still left the question over what was next for Wyatt.
The answer turned out to be a meaningless championship run after Reigns recaptured the belt within a week. If WWE had any foresight into the 'Tribal Chief's' return, it would have made more sense for him to take the title off of Braun Strowman, who ate the loss at Payback anyway. Instead, the fleeting second reign only served to ding the credibility of 'The Fiend' further, especially since he was quickly distracted from pursuing the strap by Randy Orton.
