10 WWE Moments That Just Left Us Confused

5. The Wild Card

Last May, with Raw ratings going down the drain faster than a spider in a rainstorm, Vince McMahon personally appeared on the red brand to announce a package of sweeping changes that'd arrest the show's seemingly perpetual slide. The coup de grace of his earth-shattering announcement was the so-called 'Wild Card Rule', which would allow three talents from the opposing show to cross the hall for one-off appearances each week.

All very simple, on paper (or on card, as it were), and quite easy to remember: just think of Shane Helms, Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore.

Except, by the end of that very same night, thanks to Lars Sullivan's intrusion, four superstars had gatecrashed Raw via the new rule. If the company's chairman can't count to three, what hope for the trainee referees at the Performance Center?

The rule caused so much general puzzlement amongst fans and superstars alike - Kevin Owens memorably mocked its arcane application - that WWE themselves published a website article attempting to explain it.

One, two, three! It's not hard! Unless you're Rod Zapata, anyway.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
