10 WWE Moments That Just Left Us Confused

4. Montreal!

Ah sh*t, here we go again. Montreal: you can just say the word, and most wrestling fans with even the vaguest interest in the industry's history know exactly what this reference to Canada's second biggest city means. It starts with a 'screwj' and ends in an 'ob'.

Presumably, based on the general public's driving habits and dithering inability to social distance in a supermarket, there does remain a small subset of the fandom somehow oblivious to this most infamous night in wrestling, despite almost quarter of a century of coverage, references, documentaries, and general mithering ad nauseum.

The confusion they feel today at a shoot Sharpshooter spot mirrors the feelings of many watching Survivor Series '97. The internet was in its infancy, and the circulation of dirt sheets was restricted to only the smarkiest of smarks. Fact is, not many had any clue what had gone down when Shawn Michaels scampered away with strap in hand, before Bret Hart gobbed in the face of loveable commentator Vince McMahon.

Hitman signing the letters 'WCW' possibly resonated with the Montreal crowd, throughout which rumours of his departure had disseminated, but for the majority watching at home, it was a perplexing and shocking reference to WWE's great rivals. Of course, now everybody knows everything about it, and more.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
