10 WWE Moments That Prove Ruthless Aggression Era Was Best

2. Rock Vs. Austin Ends For Good At WrestleMania

WrestleMania, Rock vs. Austin...does it get any better? Their bout at WrestleMania 19 was the culmination of years and years of heat between these two titans of the industry, and it would also prove to be the final entry in Steve Austin's illustrious collection of incredible WrestleMania matches. The Rock was in prime heel form, playing up the "sell out" chants of WWE fans who were pissed that The Great One had abandoned them for a movie career. Meanwhile, Steve Austin was battling his own series of real life personal problems and looking to retire. The Rock had never beaten Stone Cold at WrestleMania. They needed one final match to settle who was, in fact, the greatest wrestler of their time. The stage, as they say, was set. Despite being on the undercard without a title on the line (a huge rarity for these two), there was no half-assing any aspect of this one, with both men giving it their absolute all and delivering a spectacle for the ages. From the moment The Rock mocked Austin by wearing his famous leather vest, this thing was, as good old J.R. would say, a real slobberknocker. It was a highlight reel of signature moves, as well as the "stealing" of signature moves, that ended with three Rock Bottoms to a finally broken Rattlesnake, and a clean 3-count. If anyone was going to send The Rattlesnake off from the WWE, it had to be The Rock. And to see Dwayne Johnson break kayfabe, sitting on the mat next to his longtime rival, pushing the referee away so he could tell him how much he loved and respected him, was a moment that was as unexpected as it was touching. This was a true "end of an era."
