10 WWE Moments That Prove Ruthless Aggression Era Was Best
5. Eric Bischoff Named New Raw GM
In 2002, the Mr. McMahon character was starting to grow a little stale, and the superstars needed some fresh authority to rage against. And could you possibly think of another person more deserving of the WWE roster's ire than the man who just recently tried to ruin their livelihoods by destroying the company they worked for? Every element of this surprise announcement was pretty terrific: Vince walking out to the ring accompanied by the nWo music (and onscreen effects), announcing that a new General Manager of Raw would be...uh, announced...later in the evening (to build ultimate suspense), and then having Eric Bischoff casually interrupt a backstage Booker T. promo. And what's the very first thing they do after appearing together for the first time on WWE programming? THEY F*CKING HUG EACH OTHER! Keep in mind, this was just a few months after Vince had successfully run WCW out of business. And they actually embrace each other, as if they're both human people! It was...it was pretty ballsy. And Bischoff as GM largely worked beyond that single moment, too, acting as a fantastically over-the-top heel during his reign.
