10 WWE Moments You Never Thought You'd See (But Did In 2017)

2. Goldberg Wins Gold Again

Goldberg returning to the ring at Survivor Series 2016 was shocking enough, but 2017 saw Big Bad Bill defeat Kevin Owens to win the WWE Universal Championship. It was a surreal moment, for fans and wrestlers alike. 13 years after he lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Triple H, Bill Goldberg was on top of the wrestling world again.

Of course, the title change only happened in order to move the title to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33, in a match that went a long way to fixing the damage caused by their mess at WrestleMania XX. Regardless of the reason for the title change, seeing Goldberg on top was a strange sight for fans both old and young.

Was it necessary? Probably not. The match between Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho at WrestleMania deserved to have a major title involved, and Brock Lesnar’s part-time schedule has meant that the big red belt has been absent from RAW for most of the year. Was it cool?

You damn right it was.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
