10 WWE Moments You Never Thought You'd See (But Did In 2017)

1. Jinder Mahal Wins The WWE Championship

At the end of 2016, the only lists that Jinder Mahal would have featured on were lists of people who might be given their future endeavours in 2017. The former 3MB member was an enhancement talent on RAW at best, and one who seemingly hadn’t improved at all in his years out of the company. 2017 didn’t start well for Jinder, although a tag run with Rusev gave him a little more attention than usual.

Mahal then moved to SmackDown, and all of a sudden he was on top of the world. If WWE fans had been asked to list the roster in terms of likeliness of winning the WWE Championship, there is a solid chance that Jinder’s name would have only been above Curt Hawkins, Enzo Amore and the rest of the cruiserweight division.

Instead, The Modern Day Maharaja became the 50th man to win the WWE Championship, before holding the prestigious title for longer than Edge, Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns and others. It was an ascendancy that nobody saw coming. Many words will be written about the rise of Mahal, and for good reason.

There was no more shocking story in all of WWE in 2017.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
